Computer Science
Computer Science is a multi-faceted field of study that focuses on solving problems from different disciplines algorithmically. It is the foundation that artificial intelligence is built on, and a necessity for building intelligent systems. Choosing the Computer Science track will give a deeper look into both theoretical and applied concepts that are essential for of AI research and development. The track will focus on essential data structures and algorithms and will delve deeper into machine learning and deep learning.
Computational Linguistics
Computational Linguistics has been both defined by and defining the algorithm classes that have been labelled Artificial Intelligence since the term was coined in 1956. Human intelligence manifests primarily in language, facilitating externalization of thought and division of labor, which in turn made us the singularly successful social species to carry the responsibility for this planet. The latest turn in AI development again rests on algorithmic processing of human thought in natural language, which is now the central tool for interacting with these “neural” large language models and for making them interact with other “symbolic” knowledge bases the design principles of which computational linguists have engineered for decades. With the electives in the linguistic track, you can become part of this engineering force that operates current AI systems as well as design AI's future generations.
Mathematics
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its well-known branch of Machine Learning (ML) are rapidly developing fields gaining significant results in science, medicine, and industry. The ML methods most used in designing a neural network are the Gradient Descend, Stochastic Gradient Descend, Adam, and Modified Adam. These methods are developed, and use mathematical concepts that come from Calculus, Multivariate Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Matrix theory. The electives offered by the Math track of the AI program will teach the fundamentals a student, and future neural network developer needs to understand the basic ML methods to become a competitive expert in the field.

You do not need to submit test scores if you have completed (all years) of a bachelor's or higher degree from a regionally accredited university in the United States.
Request that your scores from one of the following be sent to East Texas A&M University:
- TOEFL (Minimum Scores: IBT 79, or CBT 213, or PBT 550)
- IELTS (Minimum Score: 6.00 band overall)
- PTE (Minimum Score: 53 overall or higher)
- Duo Lingo (Minimum Score: 105)
*Scores must be less than two years old.

CID Graduate Scholarship Opportunity
The CID M.S. in Artificial Intelligence Graduate Scholarship assists incoming East Texas A&M graduate students starting in the fall or spring semester of each academic year.
To qualify for the M.S. in Artificial Intelligence Scholarship, the following eligibility requirements must be met:
- Fully admitted graduate student in the M.S. in Artificial Intelligence program
- Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or First Class distinction.
- Must enroll in six semester credit hours for domestic students or nine credit hours for international students.
- Applicants will be considered at the time of admission.
- The duration of the non-renewable scholarship shall be for one academic year if starting in the fall and one semester if starting in the spring. For students admitted in the fall, the amount will be $500 for the fall semester and $500 for the spring semester. For those admitted in spring, the one-time amount will be $1,000.
Both domestic and international students are eligible for this scholarship. For competitive scholarship recipients, the scholarship will entitle an out-of-state student to the non-resident tuition exemption. As such, students with any other scholarships, awards, or graduate assistantships that provide non-resident exemptions are ineligible for this scholarship.
All new applicants are automatically considered for the scholarship.
